KMDA: Kyiv to Announce Daily Moment of Silence at 9:00 AM via Loudspeakers

The KMDA is completing testing of an alert system that will announce a daily moment of silence at 9:00 AM via loudspeakers. This is intended to become a daily ritual of remembrance for those killed by Russian aggression. Over 400 alert points are currently connected, with more to be added.

Kyiv is completing the testing of a new alert system that will announce a moment of silence daily at 9:00 AM via loudspeakers. This initiative aims to make the moment of silence a daily ritual of remembrance for all those who have died as a result of Russian aggression.

Deputy Head of the KMDA, Hanna Starostenko, stated that the goal is for the 9:00 AM moment of silence to become an important daily tradition for the Kyiv community, rather than a mere formality. She emphasized that it should be an internal need to pause, remember, understand the cost, and honor the fallen. According to Starostenko, this is a symbol of unity in honoring all victims of Russian aggression, both military and civilian. She also added that during testing, it is already noticeable how more and more people stop at this moment, and it is crucial for the city to pause daily for a minute in memory and gratitude to those who paid the ultimate price.

Since April 13, a short voice message announcing the start of the moment of silence has been broadcast daily at 9:00 AM in locations where it is technically possible. Currently, over 400 alert points are connected to the announcement system. The city is undergoing reconstruction and technical modernization of the system, which will allow for the gradual expansion of the list of locations.

It is worth recalling that in March, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed Bill №14144 on a nationwide moment of silence, which obliges local self-government bodies to announce it daily at 9:00 AM.
