An assault charge against Joshua Brodericks (25) involving a 22-year-old Co Cork woman has been withdrawn. Brodericks, a former Atlantic Technological University student from Gleann Dara, Rahoon, Galway, appeared at Dublin District Court on Friday. He remains on conditional bail for two violent disorder charges and one assault charge related to Oreoluwa Amosu (24), a friend of the deceased.
Brodericks is accused of violent disorder connected to the death of Qayyum Balogun (21), a Maynooth computer science student from Co Louth. Balogun died after being stabbed on Clarendon Street in the early hours of June 1st, following a late-night rap concert at Bewley’s on Grafton Street. Garda William McCarthy alleged Brodericks led a gang of 14 that chased Balogun and instigated an attack carried out by six people. While Brodericks is not believed to have used a weapon, he is alleged to have been physically involved.
Judge Mark O’Connell remanded Brodericks on continuing bail until September 18th for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions. Several other suspects have yet to be arrested.
