US Senate Committee Approves Increase in Security Assistance to Ukraine to $750 Million Until 2029

The US Senate Armed Services Committee approved an increase in security assistance to Ukraine to $750 million until 2029. These funds will be directed to American companies for weapon production for the Ukrainian military. The bill also prohibits recognizing Russia's sovereignty over Ukrainian territories and obliges the Pentagon to provide intelligence support to Kyiv.

The US Senate Armed Services Committee has voted to extend security assistance to Ukraine and increase the approved funding to $750 million within the defense budget. This decision was made by a Republican majority in the committee, as reported by Reuters.

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) extends the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) until 2029. The increased funding of $750 million will be allocated to American companies for the production of weapons for the Ukrainian military. The comprehensive Senate bill, which proposes an overall defense budget of $1.15 trillion, covers a wide range of issues: from military equipment procurement to military personnel pay raises and responses to geopolitical threats.

The document also prohibits the use of budgetary funds for any activity that recognizes Russia's sovereignty over internationally recognized territories of Ukraine. Furthermore, it obliges the Pentagon to provide Kyiv with intelligence support for the defense and recovery of these territories. The defense bill must now pass votes in both chambers of Congress, after which a compromise version will be sent to the White House for President Donald Trump's signature.

This decision by the Senate committee is a significant step, especially considering the previous reduction in American aid to Ukraine after Donald Trump's return to the White House in January 2025, when his administration did not even include funding for Ukraine in its draft 2027 defense budget. Last week, on June 4, 2026, the US House of Representatives already passed a separate bill supporting Ukraine and imposing new tough sanctions against Russia, bypassing traditional procedure thanks to the votes of a group of Republicans who opposed Trump's stance.
