Number of Ukrainians with Temporary Protection in EU Rose to 4.37 Million in April, Germany Leads
In April, the number of Ukrainians with temporary protection in the EU rose to 4.37 million, a 1% increase from March 2026. Germany continues to host the most refugees. Increases were recorded in 24 EU countries, with the largest in Poland, Italy, and Germany.
The number of Ukrainian citizens seeking protection in the European Union from Russia's full-scale aggression slightly increased as of April. According to Eurostat data, approximately 4.37 million Ukrainians held temporary protection status in the EU in April, which is a 1% increase compared to March 2026.
Germany continues to host the largest number of Ukrainian refugees. In April, approximately 1.28 million Ukrainians were in Germany, 971,255 in Poland, and 384,435 in the Czech Republic.
The number of persons under temporary protection increased in 24 EU countries and decreased in three. The largest absolute increases were observed in Poland (+9,850 persons; +1.0%), Italy (+7,020 persons; +20.8%), and Germany (+4,705 persons; +0.4%). The largest decreases were recorded in France (-440 persons; -0.9%) and Ireland (-125 persons; -0.1%).
