Germany Allocates €300 Million for Czech Ammunition Initiative for Ukraine, Securing 50,000 Shells

Germany will allocate €300 million to the Czech ammunition initiative for Ukraine, enabling the purchase of approximately 50,000 shells. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed this. Germany is the largest donor to the initiative, which provides Ukraine with essential ammunition.

Germany will allocate an additional 300 million euros to the Czech initiative for supplying ammunition to Ukraine. This was announced by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius after talks with Czech Defense Minister Jaromir Zuna. These funds are expected to cover the purchase of approximately 50,000 units of ammunition.

Jaromir Zuna emphasized Germany's important role as a supplier of military equipment and ammunition. Pistorius called the initiative a crucial tool for assisting Ukraine, which is resisting the Russian invasion, and thanked the Czech Republic for its continuation. Germany is the largest foreign donor to this initiative, having allocated a total of one billion euros last year.

The Czech Republic launched the project in 2024 with the support of former Prime Minister Petr Fiala and President Petr Pavel. The initiative involves finding available large-caliber ammunition on global markets, securing its purchase with funds from partner countries, and subsequent transportation to Ukraine. Although the current Czech coalition decided to maintain only an administrative role for the Czech Republic, not participating in the purchases themselves, the opposition criticizes this stance. A February poll showed that 62% of Czech citizens support the continuation of the initiative.
