French, Dutch, Greek Defence Ministers' Aircraft Targeted in Cyprus; Ireland Confident in Security
Aircraft carrying French, Dutch, and Greek defence ministers were targeted in Cyprus with communication interference and Turkish fighter jet tracking. This occurred during an EU defence meeting, amid ongoing security concerns for Cyprus' EU presidency. Ireland's Taoiseach Micheál Martin expressed confidence in Ireland's security for its upcoming EU Presidency.
Aircraft carrying the French, Dutch, and Greek defence ministers experienced communication interference and were tracked by Turkish fighter jets upon arrival in Cyprus for an EU defence ministers meeting. Turkey has denied the incident. This event is the latest security concern during Cyprus' EU presidency, following cancellations of other meetings due to drone and ballistic missile threats from Iran and Hezbollah.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin stated he was unaware of the Cyprus incident but expressed confidence in Ireland's security measures for its upcoming EU Presidency in July. Irish intelligence services, including An Garda Síochána and the military, are collaborating with European countries to assess threats and have robust plans in place. France and Cyprus are also set to sign a new defence pact allowing France to station troops on the island.
