KIIS Poll: 61% of Ukrainians Reject Ceasefire Without Security Guarantees
A KIIS poll (May 7–June 3, 2026) shows 61% of Ukrainians reject a ceasefire without security guarantees. The same percentage would approve if European troops actively defended Ukraine near the frontline. Security guarantees are crucial for public acceptance of a ceasefire.
A Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) poll, conducted from May 7 to June 3, 2026, reveals that 61% of Ukrainians categorically reject a ceasefire along the current frontline without security guarantees. Conversely, 61% would approve a ceasefire if European troops were stationed near the frontline and would defend Ukraine against renewed Russian aggression.
The poll tested four scenarios. The lowest support (32%) was for a ceasefire without any guarantees. Mid-range support included 42% for European troops deep in Ukraine not participating in combat, and 53% for security guarantees in the form of large-scale financial and weapons support. The highest support (61%) was for European troops near the frontline actively defending Ukraine.
KIIS conducted the survey via computer-assisted telephone interview (CATI) with a random sample of 2,007 Ukrainian citizens aged 18 and older. The sample was drawn exclusively from Ukrainian government-controlled territory, excluding Ukrainians abroad or in Russian-occupied areas.
