Ukrainian teenager Vadym Davydenko, 17, died October 15, 2025, from multiple stab wounds in a Dublin care facility. An inquest was adjourned due to criminal proceedings, with an individual charged with murder. The accused's age remains disputed, impacting legal proceedings.
Ukrainian teenager Vadym Davydenko, 17, died from multiple stab wounds on October 15, 2025, following an incident at an emergency residential unit in Grattan Wood, Donaghmede, north Dublin. He had recently arrived from Kyiv and resided in the 24-hour care facility, which housed four unaccompanied children seeking international protection under a «special emergency arrangement» and was overseen by a private company for Tusla.
An inquest at Dublin District Coroner's Court confirmed his identity via DNA and noted his death was due to «multiple sharp force injuries». The inquest was adjourned «sine die» because criminal proceedings have been initiated. An individual has been arrested and charged with murder.
The accused, a young male originally from Somalia, was arrested at the scene. His age has been a point of contention. Initially, he claimed documents stating he was a juvenile were false, suggesting he was older, and his lawyers also raised doubts. He cannot be named as he is being prosecuted as a minor. However, in a subsequent February hearing, he stated, «My age is 17, what more do the police want?»
Detective Sergeant Mark Quill believes the defendant is over 18, citing «one-way» engagement with Somali authorities regarding documentation. Tusla, while no longer providing care, continues to support and visit the teenager and considered a judicial review over a denied interim care order due to the age uncertainty. The accused remains remanded in custody at Oberstown Children Detention Campus, awaiting age verification and trial before the Central Criminal Court.
