Enniscrone Retirement Village Eviction Delayed Six Months for Disabled and Elderly Residents

Disabled and elderly residents in Enniscrone, Co Sligo, received a six-month eviction delay from Nasso BK Holdings Ltd, though the original termination notice remains active. The landlord is exploring long-term solutions for tenants with serious health conditions. This reprieve is likely due to new rental laws requiring six-year minimum tenancies.

Disabled and elderly residents facing eviction from a west Sligo retirement village on Saturday have received a six-month reprieve. Landlord Nasso BK Holdings Ltd informed tenants in a letter that while they can remain, the original notice of termination from last November «remains legally effective and in place» as «longer-term arrangements are explored.»

The six purpose-built, age-friendly homes in Enniscrone, Co Sligo, house residents with conditions like Alzheimer’s, MS, and cancer. Elizabeth Stewart (84), who cares for her husband Frank (88) with Alzheimer’s, expressed distress, stating, «It’s definitely not the peace of mind we were hoping for.» Justin Carroll (58), who has MS, felt relief, saying, «The fact that there was a ray of hope meant everything.»

Independent Cllr Joe Queenan believes the extension is due to new rental laws under the Residential Tenancies Act 2026, which mandate a six-year minimum duration for new tenancies created after March 1st. Nasso BK Holdings intends to sell six investment properties surrounding Sonas Nursing Home and stated that efforts with Sligo County Council and other bodies to find solutions were unsuccessful. The company acknowledged the distress caused and remains open to engagement, though no current talks are ongoing with Sligo County Council.
