Kilkeel: Man Arrested for Attempted Murder After Crossbow, Sword PSNI Stand-off

A man was arrested in Kilkeel, Co Down, on suspicion of attempted murder after a four-hour stand-off with PSNI officers last night. Police were called around 9pm after reports of a man in a balaclava threatening residents with a crossbow. Upon arrival, the suspect retreated into a house.
During the prolonged incident, the man threatened officers with a large sword and fired crossbow bolts, which narrowly missed them. PSNI deployed Attenuating Energy Projectiles (AEPs) and a taser to safely detain him.
District Commander Superintendent Lynne Corbett commended officers for their «bravery and professionalism» in the face of continuous, potentially life-threatening attacks. The arrested man received medical review and will be questioned on suspicion of attempted murder, making threats to kill, and possession of an offensive weapon.
