Ukrainian Ambassador to US Olha Stefanishyna Awaits Senate Approval of The Ukraine Support Act
Ukrainian Ambassador to the US Olha Stefanishyna thanked the House of Representatives for approving The Ukraine Support Act and expects Senate support. The bill provides military aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia. An allocation of 400 million dollars in military aid, approved by Congress in December 2025, was also announced.
The Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, Olha Stefanishyna, expressed gratitude to the House of Representatives for approving The Ukraine Support Act and emphasized her expectation of a similar step from the Senate. She announced this on her Facebook page, as reported by «European Pravda».
Stefanishyna noted that the vote in the House would help activate work on a number of bipartisan bills awaiting consideration in Congress. «I am grateful to the members of the U.S. House of Representatives for their bipartisan support of Ukraine and for ensuring that the issue of achieving a just and lasting peace for our state remains among the priorities on the American agenda. Now it is up to the Senate,» she added.
The Ukraine Support Act, which provides for new military aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia, was approved by the House of Representatives with the support of 18 Republicans and one independent congressman. For the document to become law, a vote in the Republican-controlled Senate is required. However, the likelihood of this bill being considered in the Senate is low, as Republican Majority Leader John Thune rarely deviates from President Donald Trump's stance. The document was brought to a vote through a special discharge petition procedure, supported by six Republicans, independent Keeley, and Democrats.
It is also worth noting that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced news regarding the allocation of 400 million dollars in military aid to Ukraine, which had already been approved by Congress. This package of 400 million dollars is intended for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) and provides for the Pentagon to purchase equipment from American defense companies. These appropriations were included in the National Defense Authorization Act, approved by the U.S. Congress in December 2025.
