Ukrainian Strawberry Prices Drop 20% by June 2; Carrots, Potatoes Rise

Ukrainian strawberry prices fell 20% by June 2 due to increased domestic harvests and imports. Meanwhile, carrot and potato prices rose due to thinning supplies. Deputy Agriculture Minister Taras Vysotskyi confirmed no food deficit, attributing price shifts to harvest cycles and limited storage.

Ukrainian strawberry prices dropped by an average of 20% by June 2, selling for 120–200 UAH ($2.70–4.51) per kilogram. This marks the second consecutive week of declines, driven by increased domestic harvests from southern Ukraine and imports from Greece, Türkiye, and Spain. Analysts expect further drops as open-ground strawberries enter the market, though current prices are still about 11% higher than in early June 2025.

Conversely, carrot prices rose 34% by May 21, with 2025-harvest stock selling for 13–20 UAH ($0.29–0.45) per kilogram due to dwindling quality supplies. Last year’s potatoes also climbed 15% in late May, trading at 6–12 UAH ($0.14–0.27) per kilogram for similar reasons. New-season cabbage, however, fell 18% to 34–40 UAH ($0.77–0.90) per kilogram with early harvests, but 2025-harvest cabbage saw prices rise to 10–17 UAH ($0.23–0.38) from 8–15 UAH.

Deputy Agriculture Minister Taras Vysotskyi noted that Ukraine’s agricultural sector, which provides half of the country’s exports, remains steady despite wartime challenges, including sowing over 5 million hectares of spring grain under drone strikes. Price fluctuations are common, especially for produce grown by non-professional producers with limited storage, leading to price drops during harvest and increases in winter. Vysotskyi confirmed there is no physical food deficit, only price variability.
