Zelenskyy: Ukraine Agreed on Fast Supply of New Patriots and Missiles, Seeking Funds

Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced an agreement for the rapid supply of new Patriot systems and missiles. Ukraine will receive a slot from other countries but urgently needs to pay the contract. Funding issues have emerged, potentially delaying deliveries until 2030.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced an agreement with the U.S. and partners for the supply of new Patriot systems and missiles. This agreement, initially set for 2025, involves other countries ceding their turn in line for new air defense systems to Ukraine, as the standard wait for Patriots is years, meaning Ukraine would only receive them around 2030.

Zelenskyy emphasized that paying for the contract is necessary to receive the systems. However, funding issues have arisen because the government relied on partner funds that have not yet arrived, partly due to Hungary's veto on the EU aid package. The President stressed the need to find money to pay the contract, otherwise the systems and missiles will only arrive in 2030. He also noted that his strong statement about possible personnel decisions was due to this problem. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Security and Defense Council, and Ministry of Defense are obliged to find these funds.
