Over 145,000 Junior Cycle and Leaving Cert Students Begin Exams Today
Over 145,000 Junior Cycle and Leaving Cert students began their written exams today, a record number. Education Minister Hildegarde Naughton wished students well, emphasizing that exams are important but do not define a student's future, and encouraged wellbeing.
Over 145,000 Junior Cycle and Leaving Cert students began their written exams this morning, a record number up from 140,000 last year. Leaving Cert students started with English Paper 1 at 9:30 AM, a 170-minute exam covering comprehension, functional writing, and composition. Home Economics followed at 2:30 PM.
Junior Cycle students also began their English paper at 9:30 AM, a two-hour exam, followed by religion from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. Leaving Certificate exams conclude on Tuesday, June 23; Leaving Certificate Applied on Thursday, June 11; and Junior Cycle on Monday, June 15.
Education Minister Hildegarde Naughton and Junior Minister Michael Moynihan extended best wishes, with Naughton thanking parents, teachers, and school communities. She emphasized that while exams are important, they do not solely define a student's future, encouraging students to prioritize wellbeing. Sinn Féin's Education spokesperson Derren O’Rourke echoed these sentiments.
