The family of Qayyum Balogun, 21, is seeking justice and answers after he died following an assault in Dublin. Balogun was found in serious condition on Clarendon Street, near Grafton Street, around 3am on Monday and pronounced dead shortly after at St James's Hospital. Gardaí are investigating and appealing for witnesses.
His mother, Teslimot Balogun, described him as her first-born, a quiet, funny, and friendly individual who was best friends with his father. She stated he was born in Ireland, and the family has lived in Dundalk for over two decades. Stepmother Loveth Patrick called him «the sweetest soul you could ever meet,» gentle, calm, and frequently laughing. She refuted online rumors of him being in a gang, confirming he worked at Burger King and studied Computer Science at Maynooth University.
Padraig McGovern, Principal of Ó'Fiaich College, where Balogun studied, described him as a «lovely young lad» with ambition and goals, a credit to his family and community. The news of his death has deeply shocked the school and wider community.
