Qayyum Balogan, 21, was fatally stabbed in Dublin city centre after a concert brawl. The fight, involving over 20 people, started inside Bewley’s on Grafton Street and spilled onto the street, leading to Balogan's death on Clarendon Street. Gardaí are investigating the incident, which mirrors a similar fatal stabbing a year prior.
Qayyum Balogan, 21, was fatally stabbed in Dublin city centre early Monday morning after attending a concert by Famous Pluto at Bewley’s on Grafton Street. He was pronounced dead at St James’s Hospital after being found with stab wounds on Clarendon Street around 3 am on Bank Holiday Monday.
The incident began with a fight involving over 20 people inside Bewley’s, which spilled onto the street. Balogan attempted to flee through a side exit of Bewley’s, where he was initially stabbed in the arm. An innocent female bystander also sustained a non-life-threatening stab wound. Balogan then fled towards Clarendon Street, where he was cornered and stabbed multiple times in the chest.
Gardaí sealed off a 100-meter scene from Grafton Street to Coppinger Row to Clarendon Street, collecting forensic evidence and CCTV. Balogan, a student born in Nigeria and living in County Louth, worked part-time as a promoter and DJ. His mother is in Ireland, while his father is in Nigeria. This incident follows a similar fatal stabbing a year ago on South Anne Street, where Quham Babatunde died after a concert-related altercation.
