Merz Convenes National Security Council Due to Germany's Energy Supply, Situation Tense, Supplies Available
Friedrich Merz is convening the National Security Council to discuss Germany's energy supply. The goal is to guarantee reliable fuel supplies, particularly diesel, gasoline, and kerosene. Earlier, Katharina Reiche announced preparations for a possible kerosene shortage.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz plans to convene the National Security Council to discuss the situation with the country's energy and fuel supply. This is reported by dpa, citing a statement from the head of the German government. The purpose of convening the Council is to ensure reliable supplies of essential fuels, such as diesel fuel, gasoline, and aviation kerosene.
Merz emphasized that the situation is tense, but supplies are secured, and the government is ready to take measures in case of worsening conditions. The National Security Council, created last year by Merz's coalition government, is designed to ensure a rapid response to crisis situations. It includes representatives of the federal government and law enforcement agencies, and may also include representatives of the federal states of Germany. Ensuring supply chains remains a key priority, and the government will use "all available tools" to maintain stability.
Earlier, Economy Minister Katharina Reiche announced preparations for a possible kerosene shortage, warning against panic. She reported that she and the Ministry of Transport invited interested parties in the industry to negotiations on Monday, with the participation of airports, airlines, and fuel suppliers. Reiche noted that supply conditions vary depending on the market.
It is worth noting that on April 13, the German government coalition announced a reduction in fuel prices for consumers and businesses after a sharp increase caused by the war in the Middle East. The German government has already introduced restrictions according to which gas stations can only raise prices once a day, but this policy has failed to reduce costs for motorists, and record price highs were recorded after its introduction last week.
