Czechia Investigates Death of 40-Year-Old Ukrainian After Disinfectant Ingestion in Plzeň Prison on May 10
Czechia is investigating the death of a 40-year-old Ukrainian who died after ingesting disinfectant in Plzeň prison on May 10. He and two other inmates drank the solution provided by a guard. A criminal investigation has been launched, with the guard identified as a suspect.
The General Inspection of Security Forces in Czechia is investigating the death of a 40-year-old Ukrainian citizen who passed away last month after ingesting disinfectant. The incident occurred in Plzeň prison, where the man, along with two other inmates, also Ukrainians, drank a disinfectant solution.
Jakub Augusta, a spokesperson for the inspection, confirmed that the case has been taken under control and is currently being investigated, but declined to provide further comments. «At this time, we will not provide any additional information,» Augusta stated. According to Novinky, the incident took place during the weekend of May 10. A guard poured the disinfectant solution into the inmates' PET bottles, after which three men drank it and were hospitalized. One of them died in the hospital a few days later.
A criminal proceeding has been initiated in this case on suspicion of committing a crime against life and health. The suspect is the guard who provided the inmates with the disinfectant, an informed source reported. Doctors established the preliminary cause of death as cerebral edema, which is to be confirmed by a forensic medical examination. The convicts allegedly consumed a disinfectant effective against coronavirus, which contains ethanol and hydrogen peroxide.
