Over 147,000 full-time carers in Ireland will receive a €2,000 Carer's Support Grant this week, totaling €336 million. The grant, announced by Minister Dara Calleary, supports those caring for elderly or disabled individuals, regardless of means, with payments disbursed on June 4th.

More than 147,000 full-time carers in Ireland are set to receive a €2,000 Carer's Support Grant payment this week, as announced by Minister for Social Protection, Dara Calleary. The total value of these grant payments is projected to reach approximately €336 million.

The grant is extended to all carers who provide full-time care to an elderly individual or a person with a disability, irrespective of their financial means or social insurance contributions. Notably, over 18,000 carers are responsible for two or more individuals and will receive a separate grant for each person under their care.

Payments will be disbursed on Thursday, June 4th, directly into carers' nominated post office or bank accounts. The Carer’s Support Grant is automatically issued to individuals already receiving Carer’s Allowance (at either full or half rate), Carer’s Benefit, or Domiciliary Care Allowance. It is also accessible to other full-time carers who do not currently receive any of these benefits.

Minister Calleary also highlighted forthcoming improvements to the weekly income disregard for Carer’s Allowance, which were part of the recent budget and are scheduled to take effect in July. He expressed gratitude, stating, «As Minister for Social Protection, I want to take this opportunity to thank all carers in Ireland for the vital and valuable contribution you play in our society and in all our local communities.»
