Dublin Airport Anticipates Record 131,000 Passengers; Rail Disruption, Speeding Fines Issued

Dublin Airport expects a record 131,000 passengers today, contributing to over half a million this bank holiday weekend. Rail services in Dublin are disrupted due to engineering works, affecting 30,000 marathon participants. Police have issued over 100 speeding fines, made 50 DUI arrests, and reported one fatal road accident.

Dublin Airport is projected to experience its busiest day in history today, with an anticipated 131,000 inbound and outbound passengers. This record-breaking figure contributes to the more than half a million passengers expected at the airport over the entire June bank holiday weekend. Cork and Shannon Airports are also reporting high volumes, with Cork Airport expecting 69,000 passengers this weekend.

Rail passengers in Dublin face significant disruption due to engineering works. Eighteen stations between Connolly Station and Bray are closed, affecting DART services. Tomorrow, DART trains will operate exclusively between Malahide, Howth, and Connolly Stations. This disruption will impact some of the 30,000 participants traveling to and from tomorrow's Women's Mini Marathon in Dublin.

Roads across the country are under increased policing for the bank holiday weekend. Over 100 drivers have been caught speeding, including one motorist detected at twice the speed limit. Additionally, 115 individuals were cited for not wearing seat belts or using mobile phones while driving. More than 50 people have been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Tragically, a man in his 20s died early this morning in a car crash at The Ward in Finglas, Dublin.

In Cork, over 12,000 people have registered for the Cork City Marathon, half marathon, and 10K events, with 3,000 participating in the full marathon.
