Irish Job Postings: 39% Include Salary Data; EU Transparency Directive Missed

Salary transparency in Irish job postings is 39%, according to Indeed data from March, varying widely by occupation. Ireland will miss the June 7th EU directive deadline for salary disclosure. Childcare leads in transparency at 92%, while software development is lowest at 7%.

Salary transparency in Irish job postings varies significantly by occupation, with frontline and operational roles more likely to include pay information than office-based positions. Data from Indeed for March shows 39% of Irish job postings included salary information, placing Ireland above Italy and Spain but below the UK, Netherlands, and France.

Ireland is set to miss the June 7th deadline for a new EU directive requiring employers to disclose salary ranges and enforce gender pay equality, as no draft legislation is yet in place. Indeed's research also found strong support for transparency among Irish workers, with Ireland recording the highest share of respondents in a six-country European survey who would be more likely to apply for a role if a salary range was included.

Childcare recorded the highest transparency rate at 92%, followed by therapy, driving, construction, and education. These are predominantly hourly-paid roles. Software development had the lowest transparency at 7%, with IT at 8%, just below data and analytics, banking and finance, and civil engineering. Indeed spokeswoman Sarah Carroll noted that high transparency in sectors like construction may reflect recruitment demand, while varied compensation structures in healthcare or commission-based pay in retail make disclosure more complex. White-collar sectors often involve annual salaries, broader negotiation ranges, and non-salary benefits, leading to lower transparency.
