Magyar to Cooperate with Brussels After April 17-18 Meetings to Unlock Hungarian Funds

Péter Magyar announced cooperation with Brussels to unlock frozen funds for Hungary after technical meetings with the European Commission on April 17-18 in Budapest.

Magyar called the meetings "extremely important" and stated that his Tisza party is committed to implementing anti-corruption measures, joining the European Public Prosecutor's Office, and restoring the independence of the judiciary, the press, and higher education. He emphasized that the task of his government will be to unlock EU funds blocked due to the policies of predecessors.

Magyar plans a trip to Brussels after taking the oath to conclude a "comprehensive agreement" to ensure access to EU funds for the Hungarian people and businesses. The European Commission announced that it will discuss with Magyar the unlocking of a 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine, the first tranche of which is planned for the second quarter of 2026.

The EU hopes to unlock a 90 billion euro EU loan for Ukraine and the 20th package of EU sanctions against Russia after the defeat of Viktor Orban's party in the April 12 elections.
