EU Approves Seventh Ukraine Facility Tranche of €2.8 Billion with Compensation for Early Step Completion
The EU Council has approved the seventh Ukraine Facility tranche of almost €2.8 billion for Ukraine. The funds include compensation for early completion of several steps, including eleven out of twenty for the seventh tranche, and some steps for the eighth and ninth tranches. The payment is expected in early June 2026.
The Council of the European Union has decided to allocate Ukraine the seventh regular tranche of financial assistance, amounting to almost 2.8 billion euros. These funds are provided with compensation for the early completion of a number of steps within the framework of the EU's Ukraine Facility support mechanism.
According to the press service of the EU Council, this sum is the result of Ukraine's successful implementation of eleven out of twenty steps required to receive the seventh tranche. It also includes the completion of previously unfulfilled steps: one required for the fifth tranche and two required for the sixth tranche.
Furthermore, Ukraine has completed a number of steps ahead of schedule. Specifically, two steps under the eighth tranche and two steps under the ninth tranche have already been implemented. According to the new methodology adopted by the European Commission, Ukraine will receive compensation for such early completion for the first time. Payments under the Ukraine Facility are linked to the «Plan for Ukraine», which outlines Ukraine's strategy for recovery, reconstruction, and modernization, as well as a timetable for implementing reforms aligned with the country's EU accession goals in the coming years. The current seventh tranche follows the previous sixth tranche of approximately 2.3 billion euros, provided in December 2025. The seventh tranche is expected to be transferred to Ukraine in early June 2026. Earlier, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos announced that Ukraine had fulfilled a number of requirements to receive a new tranche under the Ukraine Facility. Overall, the EU is setting stricter conditions for reforms for Ukraine to receive macro-financial tranches, but Kyiv is resisting some of Brussels' requests.
