Úisce Éireann Approved for €13.6 Billion Infrastructure Investment by 2029

Úisce Éireann has received regulatory approval to invest €13.6 billion by 2029 in critical water infrastructure. This record investment aims to support new home construction and meet growing demand, addressing long-standing service deficiencies across the Republic of Ireland.

Regulators have authorized the state water utility, Úisce Éireann, to invest nearly €14 billion by 2029 in essential infrastructure. This funding is crucial for supporting new home construction and addressing increasing demand across the Republic of Ireland.

The absence of adequate services, including water supply and waste treatment, has been identified as a significant impediment to the development of new housing units within the country.

On Thursday, the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities (CRU) confirmed its approval of a «record €13.6 billion investment» by Úisce Éireann. This substantial capital will be allocated to critical infrastructure projects nationwide through 2029. The planned expenditures encompass 163 new and upgraded water treatment plants, which will boost capacity by an additional 43 million liters daily. Furthermore, 61 new waste treatment facilities, 126 kilometers of new pipes, 113 kilometers of new sewers, and various other projects are included in the investment.

CRU chairman, Fergal Mulligan, stated that this decision represents a significant advancement in securing vital infrastructure. He added that «in the period up to 2029, it can deliver a real step change in water and wastewater services, while helping to address long-standing infrastructure needs across the country.»
