Rada to Ratify €90 Billion EU Agreement on May 28: Zhelezniak
The Verkhovna Rada will consider ratifying a €90 billion EU loan agreement on May 28, as announced by MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has already signed the memorandum. The disbursement of funds is contingent on reforms in the rule of law and anti-corruption sectors.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is preparing to ratify a loan agreement with the European Union for the provision of financial assistance to Ukraine amounting to 90 billion euros. The draft ratification will be submitted for parliamentary consideration on Thursday, May 28.
This was announced by People's Deputy Yaroslav Zhelezniak on his social media, citing information from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who signed a memorandum on the provision of these funds. According to Zhelezniak, the vote in the Verkhovna Rada could take place as early as May 28, following an urgent review of the document by the relevant committee. The document is expected to appear on the parliament's website, and in the morning, the committee will consider it before it is put to a vote.
It should be recalled that on May 18, European Commission spokesperson Balazs Ujvari stated that the European Union and Ukraine were still negotiating the Memorandum of Understanding, discussing the economic and political conditions for receiving macro-financial assistance within the framework of the specified loan. It was previously reported that to receive part of the budget support, Ukraine must implement a series of reforms, particularly in the areas of rule of law and anti-corruption.
According to sources, these requirements will include elements of the plan known as the «10 points of Kachka-Kos», one of which envisages the adoption of an Anti-Corruption Strategy. These reforms concern the rule of law and anti-corruption, areas in which Ukraine has not yet demonstrated sufficient progress.
