Met Éireann Issues Status Yellow High Temperature Warning for Eight Counties, Up to 30C

Met Éireann issued a Status Yellow High Temperature warning for eight counties, with temperatures up to 30C until 6pm tomorrow. Risks include heat stress, forest fires, and water safety issues. The HSE advises staying hydrated, seeking shade, and using sun protection, especially for vulnerable groups.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow High Temperature warning for eight counties: Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Galway, Kilkenny, Laois, and Offaly. Temperatures are forecast to reach up to 30C, with night-time temperatures exceeding 15C. The warning is valid until 6pm tomorrow.

The high temperatures pose risks of heat stress, difficult sleeping conditions, and water safety issues due to increased use of lakes and beaches. The Department of Agriculture has also issued an Orange level advisory for forest fires. The Health Service Executive (HSE) advises vulnerable groups, including older people and young children, are most at risk.

To stay safe, the HSE recommends avoiding direct sun exposure between 11am and 3pm, using shade, wearing protective clothing, wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen (SPF 30+ for adults, 50+ for children). Reapply sunscreen regularly. Ensure adequate hydration by drinking water frequently and protect pets from prolonged heat exposure.

For water safety, swim only at designated beaches with lifeguards and follow their instructions. If caught in a rip current, swim parallel to the shore. Adults should supervise children in paddling pools and empty them immediately after use.
