WFP Dnipro Warehouse Hit by Iskander Missile on May 25, $1.4M in Aid Destroyed

A WFP warehouse in Dnipro was hit by an Iskander missile on May 25, destroying $1.4 million in food aid for 130,000 people. WFP called the attack a crime, noting it was the second strike on this facility. Ukraine's Foreign Minister urged the UN to pressure Russia to stop such attacks.

A United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) warehouse in Dnipro, used for humanitarian operations, was struck by a precision-guided Iskander ballistic missile on May 25. This strike destroyed significant food stocks valued at approximately $1.4 million, intended for 130,000 civilians near the front line. All staff were reported safe.

WFP Representative in Ukraine, Richard Ragan, stated that targeting humanitarians is a crime and a violation of international humanitarian law. This marks the second time this specific warehouse has been hit, following a drone strike in November 2023. Over the past 18 months, WFP has recorded more than 84 incidents affecting its aid infrastructure in Ukraine.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the strike as part of Russia's continued attacks on humanitarian infrastructure, despite international calls for protection. Sybiha urged UN Secretary-General António Guterres to use all available instruments to pressure Russia to cease these attacks.
