16-Year-Old Artem, Beaten in Warsaw on May 7, Returns to Normal Life

16-year-old Artem, beaten in Warsaw on May 7, is gradually recovering. The Embassy of Ukraine is monitoring the case and maintaining contact with the family. The Polish side condemns violence based on nationality.

The Embassy of Ukraine in Warsaw has reported an improvement in the health of 16-year-old Artem, who was attacked on the Świętokrzyski Bridge in the Polish capital on May 7. According to the diplomatic mission, the teenager is gradually returning to his normal life.

The case has been under constant control of the Consular Section of the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland since the first days of the incident. On May 22, the consul visited Artem's family at their residence to personally confirm his recovery. During the visit, the teenager's current health status, the course of treatment, and the family's ongoing needs were ascertained.

«As of today, Artem feels satisfactory: he has completed treatment and is gradually returning to normal life. His interests are represented by a lawyer. The Consular Section maintains constant contact with the family and will continue to monitor the progress of the investigation, including the legal qualification of the attackers' actions,» the embassy stated. The diplomatic mission will continue to support the case in close cooperation with Polish law enforcement agencies.

The Embassy of Ukraine also noted the significant attention paid by the Polish side to this case at the highest state level and fully shares the clear position of the official representatives of the Republic of Poland: violence and hostility based on nationality, language, or origin cannot be justified. It is recalled that five Polish citizens aged 15-18 were detained in connection with the brutal beating of three Ukrainian teenagers on May 7 on a bridge in Warsaw. One of the Ukrainians sustained such serious injuries that he required hospitalization. On May 11, Polish police emphasized that the evidence gathered did not indicate a nationalist motive for the incident. Earlier, at the end of last year, the Consul General of Ukraine in Gdańsk, Oleksandr Plodysty, reacted to the beating of Ukrainian students at the Słupsk Construction School and the xenophobic comments made by a local teacher.
