Pakistan Terrorist Attack: 24 Dead, 70 Injured After Train Blast in Quetta

A suicide bomber attacked a train in Quetta, Pakistan, killing 24 people and injuring 70. The target was military personnel and their families. The «Balochistan Liberation Army» claimed responsibility for the attack.

In Pakistan, at least 24 people have died and 70 others were injured following a suicide bomber attack on a passenger train carrying military personnel. The incident occurred on Sunday in Quetta, the capital of the southwestern Balochistan province.

The suicide bomber, driving a car laden with explosives, crashed into one of the train carriages as it passed a signal. The powerful explosion caused two carriages to overturn and catch fire. Several nearby buildings and cars parked along the railway track were also damaged. The train was en route to Peshawar, transporting Pakistani military personnel and their families who were traveling to celebrate the religious holiday of Eid al-Fitr.

The separatist group «Balochistan Liberation Army» claimed responsibility for the attack. In their statement, the militants confirmed that the target of the assault was indeed the country's security forces. Local medics reported that dozens of injured individuals were hospitalized, with several in critical condition.

Balochistan province, the largest in area and poorest region of Pakistan, has long been a scene of a low-intensity insurgency. Baloch separatists accuse the central government of exploiting the region's natural resources without benefiting the local population and demand independence. Militants frequently carry out attacks on security forces, government facilities, and civilians.
