11 Irish Citizens from Global Sumud Flotilla Arrive in Dublin After Israeli Detention

Eleven Irish citizens from the Global Sumud Flotilla are due to arrive in Dublin today after being detained by Israeli soldiers. They were among 430 activists attempting to deliver aid to Gaza. Activists report severe assaults, while Israel denies all allegations.

Eleven Irish citizens, part of the Global Sumud Flotilla intercepted by Israeli soldiers, are expected to arrive at Dublin Airport around 1pm today on a Pegasus flight from Istanbul. They were among 14 Irish citizens and 430 total activists detained after the flotilla attempted to break the blockade of Palestinian territory and deliver aid to Gaza. The activists were deported from Israel yesterday evening and arrived in Turkey.

Irish flotilla members have reported severe treatment. Dr. Margaret Connolly stated that she and others were «kidnapped and abducted» by Israeli forces, with some experiencing physical or sexual assaults, including 35 fractures, five head injuries, 15 sexual assaults, and laser injuries. Tom Deasy claimed he was hit with a rifle and punched. Prosecutors in Rome are investigating possible crimes of kidnapping, torture, and sexual assault based on activist testimonies. An Israeli prison service spokesperson denied these allegations, stating all detainees were held lawfully with full regard for their rights and received medical care.
