UK, France, Spain: Anomalous Heat Up to 38 °C Forecast This Week

The UK, France, and Spain are bracing for an anomalous heatwave this week, with temperatures potentially reaching 38 °C. Meteorologists forecast monthly records, signaling more frequent heatwaves due to climate change.

Europe is set to experience its first summer heatwave this coming week, leading to temperatures reaching monthly record highs in the United Kingdom, France, and Spain. This is indicated by meteorologists' forecasts and data from the British Meteorological Service, as reported by Bloomberg, citing «European Pravda».

According to meteorologists' forecasts and weather models, an anticyclone heating the air will linger, raising temperatures 11 °C above normal. In London, daytime temperatures are expected to reach 32 °C on Sunday. Meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth noted that this could become «quite a significant event in terms of heat».

Although the official start of summer is still weeks away, long-term weather trends across the continent indicate frequent heatwaves and extreme temperatures in the coming months, especially as high temperatures begin to dry out soils in northern Europe. The French state weather forecasting service Météo-France expects climate change to bring heatwaves both earlier and later in the summer season. In the coming days, maximum temperatures will rise to 31 °C in Paris and up to 35 °C in the southwest of the country. Spain's government service AEMET forecasts the most extreme heat in the Guadiana and Guadalquivir regions, where maximum temperatures of up to 38 °C are possible.

In 2025, Europe experienced its warmest March since records began, and the world saw its third warmest July on record, indicating that climate change continues to push temperatures to unprecedented levels.
