NATO Commander Confirms All $5.5 Billion in Allied Weapons, Including Air-Defense Interceptors, Reaching Ukraine

NATO General Alexus Grynkewich confirmed on May 19, 2026, that all $5.5 billion in allied-funded weapons, including air-defense interceptors from the PURL program, are reaching Ukraine. He underscored the critical need for sustained support, noting recent contributions from Norway and Canada. Ukraine's air-defense interception rate has risen to nearly 90 percent.

All weapons procured by allies under the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), including critical air-defense interceptors, are successfully reaching Ukraine, confirmed NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Alexus Grynkewich during a joint press conference in Brussels on May 19, 2026.

The PURL program facilitates partner countries' financing of US-made weapons for Ukraine, having accumulated nearly $5.5 billion in pledges. Allied nations have continued to contribute new aid packages in recent weeks.

General Grynkewich emphasized the importance of this support, stating, «Regarding PURL, I want to assure you that everything Allies have paid for is flowing, including air defense interceptors that the Ukrainians so urgently need.» He further stressed that «Ukraine needs persistent and predictable support from Allies» and that «this is why support for Ukraine through the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List, or PURL, and any other means remains critical.» Grynkewich highlighted that allied investment in Ukraine not only protects its population, defends critical infrastructure, and sustains its fight, but also represents an investment in broader European security.

Recent contributions to PURL include Norway's allocation of $300 million earlier in May for a new package featuring missiles for Patriot air-defense systems, as reported by ArmiyaInform. Canada also announced an additional $200 million for arms purchases for Ukraine's defense forces under the same program. ArmiyaInform further reported that Ukraine's air-defense interception rate against aerial targets has increased to almost 90 percent in recent months, despite a rise in Shahed drone attacks. Ukraine is also reportedly scaling up production of interceptor drones, which the publication described as a significant advancement in the country's air defense capabilities.
