Taoiseach Micheál Martin Addresses Fianna Fáil Ard Fheis on Housing, Economy
Taoiseach Micheál Martin addressed Fianna Fáil’s Ard Fheis, marking its 100th anniversary, highlighting affordable housing as a key challenge. He stressed the importance of a strong economy, increased trade, and building more homes, while also affirming Ireland’s resolute role in the EU.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin told Fianna Fáil’s Ard Fheis in Dublin that providing affordable housing is “a defining challenge of our time.” Speaking at the party’s hundredth anniversary event at the Royal Convention Centre, Martin focused on fundamental national challenges rather than budget promises or past achievements.
He emphasized the need for a strong economy, reducing living costs, and delivering housing and services. Martin highlighted expanding trade, citing a fourfold increase in Irish exports to Canada due to free trade. He noted Ireland exports over €21 billion in food products to 180 countries, criticizing parties that “ignore the economy.”
Regarding housing, Martin stated building homes is the “only serious way.” He acknowledged that over 36,000 new homes built last year are insufficient, calling for steady investment and reforms to planning for faster decisions. He also affirmed Fianna Fáil’s commitment to Ireland’s role in the EU, stressing the need for resolution against those who seek to “hollow-out” the Union.
