Netflix to Launch Ad-Supported Subscription Tier in Ireland Next Year
Netflix will introduce an ad-supported subscription tier in Ireland next year, following launches in the UK and US. This cheaper option, which includes about five minutes of ads per hour, offers viewers a lower monthly fee. Disney+ also launched a similar tier in Ireland in March.
Netflix has announced its intention to introduce an ad-supported subscription tier to its Irish platform starting next year. This initiative follows the successful launch of a similar lower-cost option in the UK and the US, and is now being expanded to several new countries.
While specific pricing for the ad-supported tier in Ireland has not yet been confirmed, in the UK, this plan costs £5.99 (€6.87), significantly less than the ad-free tier priced at £12.99 (€14.90). Subscribers opting for the cheaper plan can expect to view approximately five minutes of advertisements per hour of content.
Netflix is not the only streaming service adopting this strategy. Disney+ also introduced an ad-supported tier in Ireland in March, which is €2 less than its standard ad-free subscription. The growing trend among streaming platforms to offer more affordable plans with advertisements provides viewers with the option to trade uninterrupted viewing for a reduced monthly fee.
