FSAI Recalls Western Brand Chicken Products from Aldi, Tesco, Dunnes, Inishella, Lidl Due to Salmonella
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has recalled numerous Western Brand chicken products, sold under Aldi, Tesco, Dunnes Stores, Inishella, and Lidl, due to salmonella. Consumers are advised not to eat the products, which have use-by dates from May 5th to May 14th, and to check freezers. This follows an earlier recall this week.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has initiated a widespread recall of various chicken products from Western Brand due to the confirmed presence of salmonella. This recall, announced on Thursday, affects products sold under prominent retail brands including Aldi, Tesco, Dunnes Stores, Inishella, and Lidl.
The recalled items encompass a broad range of chicken products, such as wings, drumsticks, whole chickens, various fillet types, breasts, legs, diced chicken, thighs, rotisserie chickens, and steaks. These products are identifiable by different batch codes and have use-by dates spanning from May 5th to May 14th. Some affected batches also include flavored chicken and vary in pack size.
While some of the implicated batches may have passed their use-by dates, the FSAI emphasizes that these products are suitable for home freezing. Consumers are strongly advised not to consume any of the recalled items and to inspect their freezers for any affected batches. Recall notices are being displayed at points of sale. Wholesalers and distributors are instructed to contact their retail customers to facilitate the recall and provide point-of-sale notices, while retailers are required to remove the implicated batches from shelves and display these notices.
This action follows an earlier recall this week by the FSAI for a smaller batch of chicken products from Manor Farm and Western Brand, also due to potential salmonella contamination. Symptoms of salmonella infection typically manifest between 6 to 72 hours after exposure, most commonly within 12 to 36 hours, and include diarrhea, fever, headache, and abdominal cramps. The illness generally resolves within four to seven days.
