Ireland Increases Littering, Dog Fouling Fines to €250 from September 1; €3M for 2026 Anti-Dumping Initiative

Ireland will increase fines for littering and dog fouling from €150 to €250 starting September 1. Minister Alan Dillon also announced €3 million in funding for the 2026 Anti-Dumping Initiative, which has supported over 2,200 projects since 2017, removing 26,000 tonnes of illegally dumped material.

Minister of State Alan Dillon announced plans to increase on-the-spot fines for littering and dog fouling from €150 to €250, effective September 1. This measure aims to deter environmental neglect and anti-social behavior, supporting cleaner communities and reducing costs for local authorities.

Dillon also launched the 2026 Anti-Dumping Initiative (ADI), marking its tenth year. Since 2017, the Department has provided over €23 million, funding 2,200 projects nationwide and removing 26,000 tonnes of illegally dumped material. An additional €3 million has been allocated for the 2026 ADI. Projects under ADI focus on prevention, abatement, education, and enforcement, including clean-ups, awareness campaigns, and surveillance equipment.
